ReplyDeleteThe voices are of beautiful quality and sing with a lot of ease, in a style appropriate to the Russian tradition for Gounod's operas, well known in St-Petersburg.
N.Ghiaurov, 10 years before its complete opera recordings in Europe, shows an incredible vocal wealth and facility. The tenor Kravtzoff would gain fortunes today...
The orchestra and the choruses play with an extraordinary spirit and precision. Trifonoff leads his troops with a clarity and a sense of the very effective theatrical climax. A big evening of Opera.
